Mussels, Lyprinol and Arthritis Joint Pain

Why blue whales get so big, and why it matters to you…

Jacques Cousteau, the undersea explorer once said, The future of nutrition is found in the ocean.’

You don’t need to tell that to the Maoris of  New Zealand.

Thanks to the powerful phytoplankton in the seas around them, they’ve lived mercifully free of most arthritis-related diseases.

Just to explain these little critters to you…

Phytoplankton are tiny organisms which drift near the surface of the sea. They turn sunlight, water and minerals into protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and amino acids.  They’re a building block of life, and responsible for 90% of the Earth’s oxygen.  Plankton is the principle diet of blue whales and humpback whales. So considering how big these beasts grow, it’s obvious that plankton packs a SERIOUS nutritional punch.

In New Zealand, this phytoplankton is particularly special. Why? Well, it’s one of those spots on the planet where extreme conditions have combined to create a breed of superplankton.  The sunshine that hits the New Zealand coastline is so intense that, over millions of years, these plankton have developed the most complex and powerful set of antioxidants found anywhere in nature.

But the Maoris don’t eat the plankton itself…

No. For centuries the Maoris have feasted on the delicious green lipped mussels which feed on that plankton. These plankton-rich mussels produce something called ‘lipid oil’. As scientists have discovered, this is a powerful anti-inflammatory. And it’s this aspect of New Zealand’s green lipped mussels which gives people protection from all kinds of health problems.

The easy way to benefit from green lipped mussels

Well, I wish the answer was as simple as eating ordinary mussels from your fishmonger. Although, saying that, there ARE benefits of doing such a thing. Ordinary mussels provide easily absorbed doses of vitamins B and C, plus amino acids, Omega 3 fatty acids, iron, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium and zinc. And they have a very low in glycemic index (GI) which makes them a great diet food. They fill you up without giving you that carbohydrate rush and crash.

But when it comes to easing joint pain and asthma, you really need to try the New Zealand green lipped mussels. And the easiest way is to try a supplement like Lyprinol.  This is an extract of green lipped mussels. It contains those all-important lipid groups, plus omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids.

A rapid response to pain

In one recent study, researchers compared Lyprinol to stabilised freeze dried mussel powder.

They found that both were effective in reducing pain, swelling and stiffness, although the Lyprinol extract achieved a more rapid response.

And another expert agrees. Georges M. Halpern, M.D., Ph.D says:

“Lyprinol(r) is the most powerful anti-inflammatory marine oil available at present. Its anti-inflammatory pain relieving action is superior to conventional pharmaceuticals, vegetable-based omega-3 oils and other fish
oils.”
